Alacer Corp. was founded in 1972 with a focus on vitamin C, complimented by minerals and B vitamins. This vitamin C focus led the company to collaborate in its early days with global vitamin C experts, including extensive consultation with Nobel laureate and vitamin C advocate Linus Pauling.
At its inception, the organization was a pioneer in creating products for distribution in the evolving health and natural products retail market. Alacer’s products were among the first supplements that many natural products distributors and retailers carried and supported.
In 1978, Alacer introduced the Emergen-C® effervescent powdered drink mix as the “champagne of nutritional drinks”. The good tasting, fizzy drink mix featured 1,000 mg of vitamin C, B vitamins and electrolytes, which became Alacer’s signature formulation. The novel delivery system for vitamins and nutrients soon had a loyal following who found Emergen-C to be the fast, fun way to boost their health and energy.*
More recently, Alacer has grown the Emergen-C brand by branching out from its natural retailer roots with expansion to drugstores, supermarkets, mass merchandisers and club stores.
Today Alacer sells 10 flavors of the original Emergen-C formulation, five flavors of a complete Multi-Vitamin line in formulas for kids and adults, and two organically flavored and sweetened versions. Alacer also offers four flavors of Emergen-C specialty formulations, which address support for joint, bone and heart health. The latest addition to the Emergen-C line are three new 2.5 ounce nutrient shots, consisting of citrus-flavored Emergen-C Immune+™ (immune system support*), berry-flavored Emergen-C Alert!™ (healthy energy and mental focus*) and orange-flavored original formula Emergen-C.
Alacer is committed to giving back to the community, reflecting values the company shares with its loyal Emergen-C users. This effort began with Alacer’s support of nutrition research at the World Committee for Health and extends today to highly popular cause-based products. Donating 20 cents for every box sold of Emergen-C Pink® (breast cancer causes) and Emergen-C BLUE™ (clean water causes), Alacer has donated over $300,000 to their charity partners at The Keep A Breast Foundation and the Surfrider Foundation®. Alacer was also a charter supporter of Operation Gratitude, a volunteer organization that sends care packages to U.S. troops in Iraq and Afghanistan. Alacer has provided cash support and donated over 750,000 packets of Emergen-C to our troops. Vitamin Angels, who provides life saving nutrients to children in poverty around the world, is another philanthropic organization that Alacer regularly and proudly supports.
Getting the word out about the Emergen-C brand and sharing its success with others has been good for business. Under the direction of Ron Fugate, Alacer’s President and CEO, Emergen-C sales have more than doubled, growing to over 400 million packets of vitamin drink mix sold per year. Alacer is now the leading manufacturer and marketer of branded vitamin C in the US.
