Overview

Overview

This is the story of one family's journey through life and the obstacles they overcame with their never-ending love, passion, desire, and loyalty. The story begins with the coming of age of Melissa Stark. It chronicles her identity crisis as she struggles with her anti-establishment tendencies attempting to reconcile the way things are with the way she thinks they ought to be. The story then becomes interwoven with the fabric of life of the rest of her loving and caring family. Melissa was an extremely passionate obsessively rebellious young girl who came from a long line of fiercely independent liberated women. She was a free-spirited truth seeker, wise beyond her years. Her relentless pursuit of the stream of consciousness of a higher power brought her to an Eden-like place full of peace and love and tolerance. The story chronicles the connection between divine intervention and a series of incredible coincidences that made her family's unconventional love come full cycle. This story also explores the inherent connection between spirituality and sexuality that defines us all as human beings and sanctifies our primal essence. The family in this story clung to each other in times of tragedy and loss, and they nurtured each other with love and kindness and understanding. Their love and kindness and empathy enabled them to survive the suffocating dominance and persecution of the evangelical fundamentalists who were envious of their love and passion.

This story strongly rejects the pop culture myth that men are from Mars and women are from Venus as a frivolous rationalization that could lead to the acceptance of misogyny and reverse misogyny. This story strongly suggests that we are all from one place-Eden. This family's nonpolitical, unbiased interpretation of the scriptures and their unconventional social values may make you question everything you've been carefully taught about God and the rules of engagement in the game of love. You will need to remove all of the puritanical fig leaves that have been planted in your brain by society to appreciate the eternal beauty of this family. If any of the scenes in this story are offensive to you, consider that to be your wake-up call. You have just failed the puritanical fig leaf litmus test. You have allowed too many puritanical fundamentalist fig leaves to be planted in your brain by society; it's time for you to do some leaf pruning before it's too late.

It's time to declare your very own spiritual and social Emancipation Proclamation and live and let live. Reconciling reality with normality and morality may well be one of the most monumental tasks any human being can ever undertake. Most folks just put this task in the hands of God and muddle through. The lovable, good-natured children of Eden in this story also delegated this task to God, and it all worked out well for them. You might end up loving and identifying with many of the major characters in this story if you outsource your judgmental inhibitions to God and be one with your creator. It is my fervent wish that this frugal chariot I am offering you bears your human soul to a place of peace and love and tolerance.

We can’t turn the news on today without having to swallow the ugly truth that hate and discord has torn society apart.  We have lost touch with ourselves and our ability to love, tolerate and promote peace. It’s all due to humanity’s departure from our primal essences; the sexuality and spirituality that grounds us in our true purpose. The book was written to compel readers to sit up, recognize the truth and begin their own very personal story of healing.

As the book’s synopsis states, the content is extremely raw and may leave some readers feeling like they have been thrown off-kilter. That is exactly what the author planned, in my opinion. Having people wake up to the realization that they have departed from the core of their soul is the only way we can start to repair things. If you love erotic fiction, are fascinated by the human condition or just want to read something unlike anything else currently on the market, then this is the volume for you.

Outskirt Press Review

You have a terrific writing style. I can tell that you have done much planning and preparation in crafting your work – especially the way you have thought out the characters and movement that happens in the story, and this takes a lot of work and a good deal of patience. It’s not an easy thing to do these days, with everyone rushing to get a piece of writing thrown up on Amazon. Your prose is very nicely written with details that capture the reader. Right from the start your plot was very engaging and I found myself really connected with what was going on. You threw family, relationships, coming of age, love, sex, romance, tragedy, humor, and some strong human emotion into the literary pot and stirred it briskly, and out came a tasty and succulent stew. Your take on using so-called dirty words for their opposite purpose is strange but refreshing. It actually makes sense. Your story moves, these uninhibited characters of yours just take life as it comes, and it works. It is easy to have too much going on to soon – not in your case. Your plot is slow and methodical and you use your dialogue to move the plot along. With that being said, you really do a nice job of slowly making your way through the story with the details and a certain voice (yours as the author) that allows your reader to really interact with the characters (who are all round and very nicely developed). Your characters are life like and I love it when I leave a story feeling like I personally know all the players.  You have a realistic plot and for me that makes for an enjoyable story. You have crafted a quality piece of writing and to you I say – good job.

Biography

I am the son of two Irish immigrants who came to this great land many years ago to find a new life. On June 16th (Fathers’ Day) the two of them created a 12 pound 4 ounce bundle of joy that ended up giving them many gray hairs and wrinkles on the on the rocky road to his horizon.  The lessons they taught me and the love and kindness they always showed me made me the man I am today.  Although they are no longer here on earth with us their spirit still lives on inside me.  I will now attempt to explain to you exactly what this 12 pound 4 ounce creature turned into and why.

Someone once asked me did God create man or did man create God. I said why does it matter – what would you do with that information if you had it?  Both entities exist at this juncture so what difference does it make? Clearly the only empirical answer to that question is -- it’s either one or the other, and that answer was good enough for me. I thought to myself, where would we be without people who ask time sensitive questions like these about God eons too late.  Or a better question might be where would they be without these questions?  At a very early age I began to see that intellectuals spent a lot of their time on mental masturbation – they wallowed in pondering the “chicken or egg” mystery and the “If a tree falls in the forest” pyridine.  I’ve always tried to avoid all intellectual pursuits.   I’m sort of an “a-lectual” -- a cause and effect, action and reaction sort of guy.  I focus on the eternal beauty of the primal Id that makes us who and what we are.  If and when a tree falls in the forest I have no interest in analyzing the sound waves it produces literally, metaphorically, or philosophically. The first thing I think of is will there be enough yellow caution tape is in place to prevent nature lovers from getting injured.  I have a tendency to use the word “next” much more often than I use the word “why”.  It is with this mindset that I tell my stories about the common everyday gentle souls that dwell within the common everyday male and female bodies on this planet as they go through life seeking the truths that matter to them in the here and now.

Some of the “a-lectual” experiences that shaped my life and made me who and what I am today are as follows:  //A couple of years in the U.S. Army serving in a non-combat role during the Vietnam era taught me how to make a bed with neat hospital folds in the corners. In the process of making my own bed I begin to understand the meaning of that old adage -- “you’ve made your bed, now lay in it”. //Several years and two prosthetic knees later after being a third string NCAA football player on the meat squad for both offence and defense, I learned that the words “to be or not to be” trumped the words “to win or not to win”. //My love of deep sea fishing and boating gives me a feeling of serenity – a holy feeling of from whence I came.  //While using my VA benefits to pursue an education in digital electronics I learned that ones and zeros really do matter and Ohm’s law and Kirchhoff’s Law are real, and science is real. //In the later years of my career as a Maintenance Engineering Specialist I learned the meaning of the phrase “if it aint broke don’t fix it”, and I also learned if something essential is broken you must do whatever it takes to fix it.  //My post graduate education in the laws of physics taught me that “energy can neither be created nor destroyed”. This law of physics brings us back full cycle to the original question, did God create man or did man create God. This energy that can neither be created nor destroyed – who created it?  I say, let the scientists sort it out. I believe that the scriptures provide many clues for scientists to follow up on.  The “slime of the earth” clue will eventually lead them to the source of all life. The answer won’t be found in some ‘big bang’ in outer space. It will be found when we gain more knowledge of the human genome. Science is that ever moving line that separates empirical reality from establishment lore. Scientific analysis of our primal id and our DNA will provide the answer.
